High walls covered with poplars and an outgrown wintergreen hedge of Prunus laurocerasus are perfect to create privacy. Downside however, is that it casts big shadows, turning grass into a moss covered area. To create a nice play area for the children we replaced it with castle gravel. This type of material is not too small and round, perfect for walking barefoot.

Areas bathing in sunlight are adorned with flower borders, providing color and variation, from Spring till Fall: Geranium ‘Gerwat’, Persicaria amplexicaulis ‘Speciosa’, Verbena bonariensis, Anemone ‘Pamina’, Panicum virgatum ‘ Rotstrahlbusch’, Kniphofia ‘Alcazar’, Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’ and Miscanthus.

Walls facing the North, were painted anthracite, beautifully contrasting with the light gravel, the bright flowers and the red bench.
